About Who Called Me

Who Called Me is a free reverse phone lookup for New Zealand numbers. If an unknown number calls you, search it here to see what kind of number it is, which network it belongs to, where it's from, and most usefully, what other people who received calls from it have reported.

Where the data comes from

Number metadata (service type, network allocation, region and status) is derived from the Number Administration Deed register, which the telecommunications industry maintains, refreshed weekly. Because carriers can port numbers between networks, the network shown is the original allocation and may not reflect the current provider.

Caller behaviour information (spam scores, categories and company tags) comes entirely from community reports submitted by visitors. Reports are anonymous, filtered for personal information, and moderated.

Some numbers show who they belong to. A verified number is one an organisation publishes on its own website. A registered number is one the national numbering register lists a well-known organisation as holding. A business listing comes from places data published by theOverture Maps Foundation(under the CDLA Permissive 2.0 and Apache 2.0 licences), which businesses and mapping services contribute to. We only show listings the data recently confirms as current, and label each one with how confident we are.

Our scam alerts explain the scams currently impersonatingbanks, Inland Revenue, NZ Post, One NZ and other well-known organisations. We check each organisation's own published scam warnings every week and summarise them in plain English: what the message looks like, what to watch out for, what to do and where to report it, with a link to the original warning.

How we keep it fair

Reports are checked for personal information and abuse before they appear, and the scam verdict for a number needs several reports. Read how we moderate for the details, and our privacy policy for how we handle information.

What this site is not

We do not publish residential listings, subscriber identities, or any private information about who owns a number. Business listings name the business a number is published for, never a person's home. Community reports reflect the experiences and opinions of their authors, not statements of fact by this site.
